
Whilst wearables and watches continue to be hyped in the news but have yet to enthral in reality, a wearable with far more value has been field tested – using sound to help the visually-impaired to navigate cities
Microsoft UK has just issued a press release announcing a research project in collaboration with the Guide Dogs and Future Cities Catapult to enable visually-impaired people to navigate cities using sound. The project involves the use of a headset paired with a Windows phone to provide directions, both verbally and through vibration.
