When tracking trends, the most common graph is one showing change speeding up, usually exponentially.

There was an interesting post defining the third age of computing, by Rich Skrenka:

  • IBM: 1950 – 1980
  • Microsoft: 1984 – 1998
  • Google: 2001 –

Hmmm, IBM had 30 years, Microsoft had 14 years… if the trend continues, that means Google should have a grand total of 7 years at the top. Soooo, who takes over by 2010?

Update October 2012: Well who could have predicted the iPad arriving in 2010…
